The biggest  mistake you’re making as an Artist

The biggest mistake you’re making as an Artist is not marketing. We hear all kinds of reasons why creative people are passing up the opportunities available to them on the internet.

Excuses include:

  1. They don’t know what to do
  2. I don’t have time
  3. Aren’t convinced it will work
  4. Don’t see themselves as a brand
  5. Are worried about people stealing/copying their work
  6. Marketing devalues my work as an artist
  7. and so much more

The truth is, whether you want to believe it or not, Artists are brands. You HAVE to promote your brand if you want people to see it. Whether you’re making a statement or trying to sell your art, the key to success lies in marketing.

Artists have a hard time seeing themselves as a brand, however, they are. It’s important as a creative to establish a strong brand. A solid brand identity helps create continuity between your art, product, or service, and your marketing efforts.

What is branding?

In short, Branding is the physical, visual, and contextual message on who you are. Combining a cohesive set of elements such as logos, tag lines, colors, and even sounds across work, advertising, and communications to establish your skills, experience, message, and intent. Successful branding helps you build successful relationships with stakeholders to influence the actions they should take with your work, product, or service.

In short, it tells stakeholders who you are and what your intent is and how they should interact with you.

Why is marketing your brand important?

Because combined with a great marketing strategy, it influences the action you want people to take with your work, product, and/or service. Do you want stakeholders to buy? Share? Engage? The right identity will help stakeholders connect and interact with you.

The more prospective buyers and collectors can connect with you and your product, the more likely they are to invest in you. But investors don’t buy blindly. You need to show stakeholders who you are and what you stand for.

How do you do that? With a strong branding and marketing approach.
